About
I’m an interaction designer and user experience consultant with an M.S. HCI and over 7 years of experience in both the United States and Europe. An active member of the user experience design community, I’ve previously been a columnist for Digital Web Magazine and London Local Ambassador for UXnet, the user experience network.
Current work
My work focuses on simple, innovative, user-centered designs and accessibility. This is reflected by the work that I’ve completed over the past several years at LBI (previously Framfab), the largest full service web design agency in Europe. During my time at LBI, I’ve led projects for numerous clients, ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.
Design philosophy
My design philosophy is based on three areas: people, simplicity and personality.
- Focus on the user. It’s essential to understand the customer’s background, lifestyle and goals when making design decisions. Include user research and user-centered approaches in projects wherever feasible.
- Keep it simple. Life is already complicated; don’t make it any worse. Use visual communication and interaction design principles to make products and services easy, effective and enjoyable.
- Create personality. People are defined by their personalities — so are products. Use visual design, interaction design and communication principles to create a distinct, appealing experience that customers want to repeat.
Goals
My short term goal is to work with a wickedly smart group of people creating awesome stuff. Beyond that, I also have a few medium- to long-term goals I’m looking forward to fulfilling.
- Focus on product design. Most of the projects that I’ve been involved in have been on a consulting basis. While I thoroughly enjoy helping other companies solve their problems, I’m keen to be in a position where I can help my own company by designing innovative and useful products and services.
- Lead business user experience strategy. I’ve been involved in several redesigns where I’ve led the web user experience strategy, but the web is often just one of many customer touch points when interacting with a company’s products and services. There’s a lot of work to be done in leading the user experience strategy across businesses and I’m excited about the opportunities this presents for both the business and the customer.
- Educate others. Beyond my passion for creating great experiences, I’m also passionate about showing others how to do it as well. I’d love to be in a position where I can teach interaction design and user centered design practices at the university level.
